The Kunsill Nazzjonali tal-Ilsien Malti this afternoon urged people in authority to do their duty well and use Maltese in publications, places and public occasions.

In a statement, it noted that several publications as well as slogans and names given to conferences, parks, buildings and public places were being given just in English, in spite of the fact that Malta was an officially bilingual country.

There were also instances during public occasions where Maltese was put aside and not given the importance it deserved as Malta’s national language and an official language of the European Union.

This negative attitude could also be seen on a number of government electronic sites which were just in English and on the personal cards of government officials which were issued just in English when they could have easily been published in both official languages and, above all, in Maltese.
