Major traffic built up on the Mrieħel bypass after a four-car pile up at one of the intersections on Tuesday morning.

Nobody appears to have been injured when the accident happened around 8.15am, though the crash blocked most of the road.

A badly-damaged Audi was seen in the middle of the road after the impact while another vehicle mounted the centre strip. Two coaches, including an open-air tourist double-decker, were among the vehicles unable to continue with their journey.

Traffic heading to the bypass towards Rabat was seen stretched out until Marsa.

The intersection, just before the recently-installed footbridge, has seen several bad accidents along the years.
