MaltaPost has apologized after a bundle of mail was retrieved from the seabed at Cirkewwa on Sunday June 1 containing letters intended for addressees in Rabat, Malta.

"Following internal investigations the matter was reported to the police and to the Malta Communications Authority for them to take whatever action is deemed appropriate in terms of law as well as the Postal Services Act. On its part MaltaPost dismissed the employee responsible for the delivery of the mail in question and initiated civil proceedings accordingly. MaltaPost apologises for this isolated incident and assures the public that it will continue monitoring all its processes so as to ensure the highest possible quality of service at all times," Maltapost said.
