For the fifth consecutive year, the Magro family, owners of the Gozo tomato processing business, kept their pledge to present Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, with new products from the Savina range of delicacies.

The gesture is made to coincide with the anniversary of the Duke of Edinburgh’s visit to the Magro Brothers’ factory at Xewkija.

This year, John Magro and his son Christian were invited to present their gift to Prince Philip at a private audience at Buckingham Palace.

Prince Philip was keen to hear about new developments at the Magro factory and about Gozo. Mr Magro briefed him about Farm Fresh Limited, Magro’s latest venture producing dairy products like ricotta and spreadable cheeses.

This year the Savina hamper included the Pekorin, which is handcrafted cheese from sheep’s milk, typical of the Mediterranean. This full-flavoured, semi-hard, cheese can be enjoyed young and flavoured with herbs and chilli peppers or ripened and matured for at least 90 days.
