Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera objected in court today to a request by columnist Daphne Caruana Galizia to split her testimony on two sittings.

Ms Caruana Galizia is being sued by Magistrate Scerri Herrera for alleged defamation in a series of blogs about her and her partner Robert Musumeci.

Ms Caruana Galizia’s defence lawyer Roberto Montalto asked the court this morning for the columnist’s testimony to be split on two sittings.

But the magistrate and her lawyer Stephen Tonna Lowell objected to the request, arguing that, according to law, once a witness got off the witness stand, nobody could force him or her to take it again.

They therefore insisted that Ms Caruana Galizia should give her testimony at one go, after which she would be cross examined.

The case was then postponed to November when Ms Caruana Galizia is to give evidence in one sitting.
