Mad Max: Fury Road leads the pack at the Jameson Empire Awards with 10 nominations including best film.

The fourth instalment in the Mad Max franchise has also picked up nods for its director George Miller and stars Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron in the best actor and actress categories.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens has nine nominations, followed by The Martian with six and Bafta favourite The Revenant with five.

London-born Hardy will battle it out with his The Revenant co-star Leonardo DiCaprio to land the acting honour.

Oscars frontrunner DiCaprio has dominated awards season with wins at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, the Golden Globes and the Baftas for his role as frontiersman Hugh Glass.

Michael B Jordan, star of boxing movie Creed, is also nominated for best actor alongside The Martian's Matt Damon and Michael Fassbender for his role as Steve Jobs.

Theron's tough category includes Room's Brie Larson, who has replicated DiCaprio's feat by picking up a Screen Actors Guild Award, a Golden Globe and a Bafta.

The best actress field also includes Emily Blunt for Sicario, Jennifer Lawrence for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2 and The Danish Girl's Alicia Vikander.

Mad Max: Fury Road is up against Star Wars: The Force Awakens, The Hateful Eight, The Martian and The Revenant for best film.

Best British film sees nominations for 45 Years, Legend, Macbeth, Spectre and Suffragette.

Star Wars duo John Boyega, winner of the Bafta Rising Star, and Daisy Ridley are nominated for best male and female newcomers, while Netflix hit Making A Murderer is up for best documentary alongside Amy, which focuses on late singer Amy Winehouse.
