Some particularly alluring cars, such as a Mercedes E-Class, a Jaguar X-Type and a Jeep Cherokee, could go under the hammer soon after the Malta Transport Authority published a list of 46 impounded and unclaimed cars.
The regulator said if the rightful owners did not come forward within one month, the cars would be auctioned.
The cars were impounded in accordance with the Clamping and Removal of Motor Vehicles and Encumbering Objects Regulations between 2006 and 2008 for being in breach of the Motor Vehicles Registration and Licensing Act.
The regulator appealed to the cars' owners to retrieve them on submission of proof of ownership and payment of the applicable registration tax, vehicle licence and other administration fees that may be due.
It reserved the right to sell them by public auction or after a call for tenders if they were not retrieved.
