Siġġiewi Kent Boringer 65
Bupa Luxol 73

(19-13, 19-16, 14-20, 13-24)

Luxol have a slight edge in the Louis Borg Cup final after opening an eight-point lead at the end of the first leg.

The holders profited from Siġġiewi's chaotic finish during which they failed miserably in their shooting, probably forgetting all about the second match coming up.

Siġġiewi were the ones who settled down first even though Marco Matijevic never really got to grips with Dirk Schembri's tight marking.

At half-time Siġġiewi still led 38-29 and seemed in control of the match at that point.

However, as often happened this season, Siġġiewi were unable to keep the good work going, allowing Luxol to regroup. The result before the last quarter got underway was tight - 52-49 for Peter Farrugia's team.

Farrugia insisted with the same five players on court and Luxol grew in confidence.

Siġġiewi lost pace and messed up most of their attacks in the last minutes, allowing Luxol to open a five-point lead 70-65.

Then, with only a handful of seconds to go Matijevic was judged to have committed a foul. The ref's decision did not go down well with Siġġiewi and Peter Shoults was given a technical foul.

Protests continued after the match but even though the refs might have been inconsistent in their control, Siġġiewi should also blame themselves for throwing away victory.

Referees: B. Vassallo, G. Barbara, E. Mangani.

Louis Borg Cup final: Second leg - Sunday, 4.15 p.m.
