Luxol joined Hibernians at the top after seeing off Luqa 8-0 in the FXDD Premier Division at the Corradino Pavilion.

Luqa tried hard to stay in the match but on the day Luxol proved stronger.

After opening the scoring through Ibrahim Tarek and Karl Saliba, Luxol found it difficult to penetrate Luqa’s organised defence, marshalled by Chris Cardona and Stephen Aquilina.

However, Luxol took command as the second half got underway and scored six goals without reply.

Their hero was Saliba who scored four goals in all as Tarek added another with Florin Anton and Noel Bray completing the rout.

In the First Division, leaders Qrendi continued with their march at the top of the table after registering their ninth victory of the season with a 7-2 win over Marsaskala.

Antonello Brincat and Dirk Zammit each scored a double with Alan Spiteri, Bertram Azzopardi and Gordon Zammit hitting the other goals for the Qrendi side who meet Gżira next in a top-of-the-table clash later this month.

Meanwhile, holders Balzan maintained their KO defence bid after hammering Qormi 6-1 to book their place in the quarter-finals.

Andrea Dan struck a hat-trick for Balzan and player-coach Gabriel Dobre netted twice. Glenn Bonello also put his name on the scoresheet while Qormi’s consolation came from a Nicola del Re own goal.

Gżira also joined the last eight of the competition after winning the derby against Msida 4-0. Premier Division side Żurrieq eliminated Division One outfir Żebbuġ 8-4.

Swieqi, bottom in the Premier Division table, had something to cheer about at last after beating Naxxar Lions 6-1 in a last-16 match.
