Former Speaker and minister Louis Galea and a passenger in his car had a lucky escape this afternoon when a brick fell from a boundary wall and hit the back of his vehicle.

The accident happened near the University roundabout in Msida at 12.15pm.

The brick was one of several that came off a boundary that was hit by a tower crane that was being dismantled.

Dr Galea, currently dean of the EU's Court of Auditors told Times of Malta when contacted “all’s well that ends well”.

The accident, he said, could have had far worse consequences but he sensed that something was going to fall, accelerated and the brick hit the back window on the left side.

His passenger, who would otherwise have been hit, escaped unhurt.
