Italian singer and songwriter Lucio Dalla arrived yesterday for his concert at the Malta Fairs and Convention Centre in Ta' Qali this evening.

The living-legend artiste is accompanied by his band and vocalists and should be interpreting some of his greatest hits of all times including Attenti al lupo, Gesù Bambino, Caro amico ti scrivo and the record-breaking song Caruso, which sold over nine million copies around the world.

Despite being on the musical scene for over 35 years, Lucio Dalla's popularity and cult personality seem to have no boundaries as audiences keep flocking to his live performances and he is known to be the epitome of Italy's famed cantautori. In an interview at his home in Bologna, he spoke to The Times about the Lucio Dalla "trademark" of his performances: "First of all, you don't know how it's going to end.

I have a great repertoire, so I can fish out loads. I either meet the public, or contrast it because even giving them something they don't know can be stimulating.

"However, from my experience in Malta last year (when he had visited briefly), I understand that they (the Maltese) like the 'historical' songs, so many will be sung on the day, as well as others to give them new stimuli."

The concert is organised by Renaissance Productions Ltd and is sponsored by Go while supporting sponsors include Jaguar, the Malta Tourism Authority, Air Malta, The Palace Hotel, Credal Network, Arkadia and Coca Cola.
