The Retail Price Index went down to 104.55 last month from 104.78 in May.

The National Statistics Office said this primarily reflected a decrease of 1.22 per cent in the Food Index, mainly due to lower prices of fruits.

Seasonally lower prices of garments caused the clothing and footwear index to drop by 0.46 per cent.

The other goods and services index went down by 0.22 per cent due to a downward movement in the prices of jewellery.

Cheaper computers underlay a decline of 0.11 per cent in the recreation and culture index.

The household equipment and house maintenance cost index went up by 0.44 per cent, mainly on account of higher furniture prices.

Costlier air fares caused the transport and communication index to rise by 0.19 per cent.

The housing index increased by 0.18 per cent, mainly due to an upward movement in the prices of materials used for the maintenance and repair of dwellings.

Higher prices for served beverages brought about a similar increase in the beverages and tobacco index.

The personal care and health index edged up by 0.14 per cent, mainly as a result of an increase in the prices for grooming services.

In June, the 12-month moving average rate of inflation stood at 2.41 per cent, whereas the annual rate stood at 3.30 per cent.
