When one tries to define humanitarian work, people like Ghandi and Mother Theresa come to mind. These people selflessly gave up their personal life, their possessions, dedicated their whole selves to helping others less fortunate than them .

Nowadays, you speak about humanitarian work and the people who come to mind first are ‘celebrities' such as Sir Bob Geldof, someone like Angelina Jolie or Madonna might even make the list, what with their regular contributions to children's orphanages in Malawi and raising awareness in Darfur. Other prominent figures like Bono have a very active role in today's society.

The man himself has also been nominated for the ‘Nobel Prize' for "Man of Peace." I personally believe there are many others who never get mentioned who aren't in the lime light and their contribution is even more noble I guess. As always controversy prevails and some people argue that artists should concentrate on their art rather than try to make a difference. People like Bono silenced these negative remarks by working even harder at what he believes in and contributing incredible amounts of funding from his concerts and merchandise to various causes which he supports.

Product Red happens to be his most recent initiative, which, set up by Bono himself and Bobby Shriver raises money for the Global Fund to fight Aids, TB and Malaria.

Bobby Shriver has been announced as the CEO of Product Red, whilst Bono is currently an active public spokesperson for the brand. Product Red is a brand that is licensed to partner companies, each influential and who create a product with the Product Red logo while a percentage of the profits from the sale of these labeled products go to the Global Fund.

Product Red have embarked on an exciting venture alongside Starbucks , which will have a total of 196 countries sing with one voice to raise funds for Aids in Africa. The world will unite in a global chorus to sing "All You Need Is Love" the classic Lennon/Mc Cartney hit which was the first broadcast to 26 different countries to over 400 million people. This event promises to be reminiscent of that historic event, again making a mark in history as it promises to raise money towards this Global Fund.

Malta will be joining the other 195 countries on December 7th where all the participants from all over the world will sing together for a good cause. BBDO New York entrusted the production to Winston Azzopardi who in turn joined forces with my manager and I to mark this historic event. We wanted to include an element of innocence and young talent, over 30 children from San Andrea school will be singing the song with me at the Upper Barrakka, which will be going out as a live feed at 2:30pm.

Money will be generated by clicks on the web site , u tube and elsewhere. London and New York are creating events hosted by worldwide celebrities, where audiences can view every country's performance of the song live on 200 screens.

The skeptical ones might think that such an event couldn't possibly help, they might think that this is just a drop in the ocean. However one cannot argue, that music is indeed one of the most powerful tools to draw people together, to unite, to create an emotion stronger than words, strong enough to encourage action, a united voice singing for justice and for us to think of those who are less fortunate than us! I feel honored to be part of this and at the same time saddened to know how many people around the world, including Malta, are suffering through poverty. Sometimes I can't help but wonder how the world would be if money didn't exist!
