Chef Matthew Schembri has returned to Malta, and after an apprenticeship in the kitchen of the Duke of Bedford, he is ready to expand the boundaries of the Maltese gastronomy spectrum. His new eating spot, Lovage Bistro, is fast making a name for itself as one of Malta’s best-kept secrets for foodies and wine lovers alike. Tucked away on a quiet street in Qawra, the restaurant has enjoyed a remarkable opening year, and is now looking forward to a building on its success in 2014.

While Maltese mid- to high-range restaurants enjoy a growing reputation for menu-quality, Lovage immediately exemplifies itself for the manner of service its patrons enjoy. Complimentary Amuse-Bouches remain absolutely faithful to their translation, and one really gets a sense that the staff enjoy delivering these delicious little introductions to the meal ahead. Included in the smart menu are starters such as prime cut beef carpaccio and the famous champagne battered prawns. While Lovage may have ‘bistro’ as an epithet, it would be wrong to think that the dishes cooked up by Chef Matt are mundane or routine. In fact, it is remarkable that the restaurant can offer such beautiful dishes as the Pernod flambéed lobster or Irish veal medallions at such an affordable price, another element that elevates Lovage above the competition.

Now, with the addition of a professional sommelier and mixologist, it seems that Lovage is now the full package, and has all the components for a successful 2014. For further details contact Lovage, Triq L-Imħar, Buġibba. Tel : 21572088
