Spain’s Jorge Lorenzo will try to stretch his MotoGP season points lead by winning for the eighth time in 10 races this year but second-place Dani Pedrosa has unfinished business at Indy.

Tomorrow’s Indianapolis Grand Prix is being staged at century-old Indianapolis Motor Speedway which has a specially built 16-turn motorcycle road circuit that includes part of the legendary IndyCar oval.

Lorenzo, who drives for Fiat Yamaha, won last year at Indy after pole-sitter Pedrosa, who races for Repsol Honda, crashed on the fourth lap.

This time, Pedrosa needs a victory to cut into the 77-point lead Lorenzo established by winning the most recent MotoGP event at Brno just ahead of him.

“I’m going to Indianapolis in a very good mood and I’m feeling ready to finish the job we weren’t able to complete in the race there last time,” Pedrosa said.

“I was on top of the timesheets from the first practice, I took pole position and the only mistake I made was in the race so I hope this time we can put together a strong weekend and take another good result.”

Lorenzo, only the third rider to have gone first or second in the first 10 races of a season, also won last month at Laguna Seca and hopes to continue his strong showing on US soil.

“I would like to repeat the same result as I got in Laguna,” Lorenzo said ahead of this 11th leg of the 18-race season.

“I just have good memories from America, last month in Laguna and last year in Indy. Last year was amazing, but this time I don’t need to take too many risks. We can avoid it.”

Reigning world champion Valentino Rossi, Lorenzo’s teammate, took a podium in Laguna Seca last month in only his second race back after breaking his leg and won the inaugural Indy Grand Prix in 2008.

“Indianapolis is a special place, an amazing track,” Rossi said. “I’m feeling stronger all the time.”
