PL candidates for the upcoming European Parliament elections have been consistently declining the invitation to participate in televised head-to-head debates on Net TV.
Such debates would have featured an equal number of candidates from each party and would not have been skewed towards one end or another. Such a stance is depriving the public of the opportunity to scrutinise their candidates and of evaulating the individual's proposals. Such debates are considered as a cornerstone of a democratic electoral campaign.
One augurs that the PL candidates take up the opportunity on public broadcasting in the coming weeks - a healthy debate is condusive to greater voter participation on June 6.
