A short time ago I moved to St Paul's Bay: a lovely place... but a hell for those like me who do not own a car!

The first time I wanted to go to Valletta I had to wait for a very long time on the bus stop, without a shelter of any sort, and at the hottest time of the day. The buses were coming by full up and could not stop. To add to the frustration other buses on the way to Sliema were almost completely empty.

When I finally got on my bus I complained to the driver that I had been waiting for 45 minutes. His answer was that others sometimes had to wait for up to 75 minutes! Indeed, in the meantime, I've met fellow villagers who boarded their bus after waiting for 90 whole minutes. By what reckoning is this acceptable in an EU country? I have sought the help of bus drivers, inspectors, the dispatcher in Ċirkewwa, the former mayor, the local council as well as that of Mellieħa, even the then minister of public transport. Nothing has changed for the better. With the increase of tourists our situation has even worsened.
