The Union Haddiema Maghqudin complained today that the absence of any official announcements on the restructuring of Air Malta was putting the workers under a lot of tension.

In a statement, the trade union noted that the steering committee was set up weeks ago and its exercise was to have been completed by the first week of January. Yet this was the second week of February and no outcomes had been announced.

This, it said, was frustrating the workers, who did not know what the future held for them

The uncertainty was also leading to many rumours, which were certainly not helping those workers who wanted to do their duty.

The union said the workers were not the blame for the situation which the airline had found itself in. The blame rested with the directors who acted in agreement with the government.

It also cautioned that the current situation could have a negative impact on tourism.

The UHM hoped that the government and the steering committee would complete their work without delay and the workers would have peace of mind.
