The Mexican kingpin of one of a major drug organisations was sentenced to 30 years in a US prison.

Authorities in Oregon said 40-year-old Jorge Ortiz-Oliva oversaw three "super" methamphetamine labs in Marion County and marijuana plantations on secluded public lands in several states.

More than 40,000 plants were seized from one site in southern Oregon.

Ortiz-Oliva was sentenced by US District Judge Anna J. Brown on drug trafficking and conspiracy charges. She also sentenced 31-year-old Pablo Barajas-Lopez, who worked for Ortiz-Oliva, to 15 years in prison.

A dozen others were convicted or pleaded guilty to charges that grew out of a multi-agency investigation involving drug traffickers in 12 states.
