Can someone from the Malta Transport Authority (ADT) or the Ministry for Transport enlighten us as to when they plan doing up the stretch of road that starts from the traffic lights near the Malta Financial Services Authority right up to the Fleur-de-Lys roundabout?

A tiny part of this road was asphalted way back in 1990 when Pope John Paul II blessed us with his first visit.

This road is used by thousands of commuters each day and it's in an appalling state. So much so, that the slower inner lane is hardly ever used due to the precarious state it is in. Not to mention the innumerable accidents that occur on a daily basis in that deadly junction near Oxford House, where drivers must gamble with their lives each time they try to cross or turn.

If it is of any help, the ADT can utilise the interest of the sum of €3,400 I paid extra in registration tax when buying a new car in 2008. For the benefit of the readers, people that bought a car in 2008 and opted to go for the new (commuters?) system, were refunded with a part of the registration tax that was paid extra when buying the car. However, this refund can only be utilised for the (new) car licence fee. It cannot be used to offset any other car licences one has in one's name.

This due refund can easily be forwarded to the car's agent or to the bank and settle part of the outstanding payments, which are being charged at a very high percentage. This also means that at the rate of my car's current licence fee, I will have to wait more than 20 years to consume the full refund.

Oh, and if in the meantime one decides to sell or scrap the car, all will be lost.

What a joke!

Professionalism in these so-called authorities is defined only by handsome salaries for top management while making citizens pay through their nose.
