A man who was involved in a car chase in Gzira on Tuesday when he tried to avoid a police patrol, was remanded in custody today after being faced with a long list of charges in court.

Shaun Zammit was arrested in Reid Street, Gzira after his speeding BMW was blocked by a crane and police cars.

He was accused in court today of driving without a licence, driving without insurance, driving dangerously, resisting the police, giving false particulars, attempting to injure a group of policemen, injuring two policemen, seriously injuring pedestrian Guzeppa Cesare, damaging a police car, damaging two cars, failing to observe traffic lights, failing to stop at the scene of an incident, breaching bail conditions, commiting a crime during the operational period of a suspended sentence, breaching the peace and swearing in public.

Loredana Abdilla, 21, who was with him, was accused of resisting the police and breaching the peace. She was granted bail against a deposit of €500 and a personal guarantee of €2,000.
