Londoners are least likely to holiday in the UK, a poll showed.

In contrast, people from Hull are happiest to have a break close to home, the survey by holiday park company Park Resorts found.

The number of holidays taken by Hull residents in the UK has risen more than 173 per cent between 2006 and 2010.

For the same period, the number of Londoners having a staycation has dipped 1.69 per cent.

Based on details of 700,000 holidays taken over the 2006-2010 period, the survey showed that, after Hull, the biggest growth in the UK holiday market has come from people in Leeds (up 132 per cent), Wakefield (up 124 per cent) and York (up almost 120 per cent).

Apart from London, the slowest growth has been from residents in Canterbury (up only 5.9 per cent), Colchester in Essex (up 8.2 per cent) and Romford in east London (up 12.3 per cent)

The survey also showed that the number of holidays taken by Britons in their own country has risen almost 37 per cent between 2006 and 2010.

Park Resorts marketing director Andy Edge said: “Our stay-cation index shows that in certain parts of the UK, domestic holidays have massively grown in popularity over the last five years.”
