Ticket prices for the 2012 Olympic Games in London will range from £20 to £2,012, organisers announced yesterday.

Around 6.6 million tickets go on sale in March next year and the best seats at the lavish opening ceremony will set fans back a massive £2,012.

The most expensive ticket for an actual sporting event is £725 for the final of the men’s 100m. Fans will still be able to attend that same event for £50 if they get one of the cheap tickets.

Other premium events, such as the cycling finals, will range from £50 to £325 and diving finals will cost between £50 and £450 while events such as the marathon, road cycling and triathlon will be free.

London 2012 chairman Sebastian Coe said: “We have three clear principles for our ticketing strategy – tickets need to be affordable and accessible to as many people as possible, tickets are an important revenue stream for us to fund the Games and our ticketing plans have the clear aim of filling our venues to the rafters.”

London 2012 has also announced that 1.3 million tickets will be reserved at special prices for children and people over 60.

Also 100,000 tickets will be given free to schoolchildren in London and across the country.

More than 1.7 million people have already signed up to London 2012’s ticket information website which will guide them in the process of applying for tickets for the 26 sports, split into 649 separate sessions.
