Germany coach Joachim Loew looks set to appease the country’s top clubs, especially Bayern Munich, by excluding most of his World Cup squad from a side which will face Denmark in a friendly on Wednesday.

According to several German newspapers, Loew is likely to travel to Copenhagen with no more than two Bayern players – Mario Gomez and Toni Kroos – in the side’s first outing since they won the match for third place against Uruguay in South Africa in July.

Meanwhile, Philippe Lahm, who captained the team in South Africa, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Thomas Muller, Miroslav Klose, Holger Badstuber and Joerg Butt will stay behind.

The decision ought to please Bayern coach Louis van Gaal who has been highly critical of the friendly which comes nine days before the start of the German Bundesliga.

The Werder Bremen pair Mesut Ozil and Per Mertesacker, who only started their club training at the end of July, will also stay behind.

Another experienced player who will not be going is Michael Ballack, who missed the World Cup through injury and has only just begun training with new club Bayer Leverkusen.

Loew, who has extended his contract with the German federation until 2012, will announce his squad officially in Frankfurt today.

Germany are in qualifying Group A for the 2012 European Championships, a campaign which begins on September 3 with their opening match against Belgium in Brussels.

Also in Group A are Turkey, Austria, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan.
