The Naxxar counting hall is stirring to life again for the counting of votes cast for the election of local councils in 23 localities.
The elections were held in parallel with the general elections on March 8
The elections were held at Valletta, Senglea, Zebbug (Malta) Zejtun, Balzan, Dingli, Fontana, Ghajnsielem, Ghasri, Iklin, Kirkop, Marsa, Mellieha, Mqabba, Nadur, Pembroke, Qrendi, St Julians, St Paul’s Bay, Sta Venera, Ta’Xbiex, Xewkija and Zurrieq.
No elections were held in Żejtun and Marsa three years ago after the PN pulled out some of its candidates so that the number of contesting candidates was equal to the number of councillors required.
Despite the fact that no elections were held in those two localities, the MLP three years ago still got the most votes, winning 53.16 percent compared to 44.05 percent for the PN, 1.73 percent for Alternattiva Demokratika and1.06 percent for other candidates.Turnout was 68.4 percent in 2005 compared to 86 percent today week.
