Local boxer Haithem Laamouz is tonight taking part in the World Boxing Championships.

The games are being shown live on Melita Sports. The bouts kick off at 8:30 p.m. Mr Laamouz, Malta’s entry in the 60 kilogrammes class, is competing with China’s entry Qianxun Hu in the same category. This is one of the most heavily contested with 82 boxers competing in this division.

Mr Laamouz is being assisted by MBF national coach Scott Dixon and Malta team manager Steve Abela.

The World boxing Championships are taking place at the Mediolanum Forum in Milan until September 12.

More than 600 boxers from 140 countries are set to contest the 11 weight categories. More than 50 million people worldwide are expected to watch the 600 boxing matches.

Match reruns will be on tomorrow at 10:30 p.m. on Channel 705 and on Saturday at 9 p.m. on Channel 705.
