Government income from VAT receipts amounted to Lm150 million during the year, the Prime Minister told parliament yesterday.

Answering a question by Carmelo Abela (MLP), Dr Gonzi said gross receipts amounted to Lm187 million but the sum of Lm37.3 million was refunded.

Arrears amount to a little more than Lm3 million. Dr Gonzi added that 3,486 people were arraigned in court for not sending their tax documents.

In answer to another question by Mr Abela, the Prime Minister said VAT inspectors found 588 persons in 64 localities who did not issued a fiscal receipts.

The highest number was in Gozo (79) followed by Valletta (53) and Sliema (33).
