Between 2007 and 2010 local councils received a total of 231 requests for compensation for vehicle repairs of damages caused by the bad state of their roads. Only 53 requests, or 23 per cent, were acceded to.

The information was given by Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi in reply to a parliamentary question by Anthony Agius Decelis (PL).

In 2007 there were 25 requests (six accepted), in 2008 51 (11), in 2009 97 (24) and in 2010 58 (12).

Dr Gonzi did not give details of how much compensation the complainants had received.
