Former Finance Minister Lino Spiteri in an interview being carried with The Sunday Times tomorrow, narrates the way he was threatened by a Socialist minister during the Dom Mintoff regime.

He says: "Instead of accepting the fact that he had erred he told me: ‘I will tie my hand behind my back and fight you’. I said ‘you don’t need to tie your hand behind your back to fight against me, but that’s not the way to solve this problem’".

As Mr Spiteri turns 70 tomorrow, he speaks openly about why he decided to vote 'yes' in the EU referendum and discusses, among other issues, the leadership election he lost to Alfred Sant, his support for EU membership during the accession process and his views of the MLP now.

Excerpts of the interview will be available on timesofmalta.com.
