Lija Athletic brushed aside Division Two side Kalkara 4-0 to book their place in the fourth round of the FA Trophy.

Lija took just seven minutes to take the ead when when Aboubaker Bello-Osagie crossed the ball into the path of Raphael Kooh-Sohna anticipated his marker to head the ball past Kalkara goalkeeper Mark Vella.

On the half hour, Kalkara’s Timothy Thomas passed the ball to Justin Felice who despite being in a good position he failed to control the ball and the chance went abegging.

The Premier League side added a second goal three minutes from the break.

Aaron Sammut burst through on the left and sent a low cross towards Kooh Sohna who turned past his marker and hit the ball past Vella.

Lija all but wrapped up their qualification five minutes into the second half when Kalkara defender Andrea Hammett upended Nigel Spiteri inside the area and the referee immediately pointed to the spot. Aboubaker Bello-Osagie sent Vella the wrong way to make it 3-0.

Kalkara suffered more woes on 58 when the Kooh Sohna punished some hesitant defending in the Kalkara defence when he rushed into the area chipped the ball over Vella.

Both teams ended the match with ten men when Lija’s Aidan Galea and Matthew Schembri, of Kalkara, were both shown a straight red card after they clashed in an off the ball incident.

Lija will face the winner of the tie between Tarxien Rainbows and Swieqi United who play at the Tedesco Stadium on Sunday.
