Lighting struck a wedding ceremony in western Ethiopia, killing three people, police said today.

The victims, a man and two women who were talking on their mobile phones, were stuck on Sunday afternoon in Assosa, nearly 700 kilometres (430 miles) west of the capital, local police told the state-run Ethiopian News Agency.

Four other guests were also hit during the wedding but have since recovered after receiving treatment.
