While more than 100,000 Berliners and tourists yesterday wandered alongside thousands of illuminated balloons to mark where the Berlin Wall once stood, a lucky few took an airborne tour.
Air Berlin put on a special flight to mark the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Wall - today - byletting passengers take in the 15 km route of illuminated balloons from up high.
The artistic display of balloons, which dramatically illustrate how the Wall snaked through the heart of the city, is also porous to enable people to easily move back and forth between the former East and West Berlin.
It took a small army of people to attach each balloon by hand onto poles which have been in place since Wednesday.
Stretching from Bornholmer Strasse to Oberbaum Bridge, the long wall of lights consists of 8,000 helium balloons, perched 3.6-metres high on poles - matching the height of the Wall.
The balloons are to remain illuminated until 7 p.m.today, when they will be released into the sky as part of the closing display of the weekend's anniversary celebrations.
