Lifelong learners, sharpen your pencils.

Applications for almost 500 different courses covering a range of 89 subjects open tomorrow, the Education Ministry has announced.

Courses will be organised at nine centres, 17 NGOs and 38 local councils, and an estimated 10,000 adult students are expected to apply.

Lifelong learning courses range from craft-based courses such as crochet or pottery to language courses, visual and performing arts modules, health-based courses and skills-based learning in anything from woodwork to mathematics.

An ICT for beginners course has been included in this year's crop of courses with the aim of encouraging adults to improve their computer literacy and help them grow accustomed to online shopping, sending and receiving email and social media.

An Education Ministry spokesperson said the government would continue to implement the measures listed in the 2020 National Strategy for Lifelong Learning. Some courses would be held in both English and Maltese, the Ministry spokesperson said.

Applicants have until August 7 to apply online. Those who need help applying can call at the Education Building in Floriana on weekdays between 8.30am and 12pm or at their local council offices.
