The first information meeting for participants in this year's Betfair Lifecycle Challenge took place last Sunday at the Renal Unit of Mater Dei Hospital.

Participants will be cycling over 2,000 km from Istanbul in Turkey to Damascus in Syria between August 6 and 20 to raise funds for renal patients and increase awareness of renal disease.

After the meeting, participants were shown around the Renal Unit to give them a better understanding of the benefits that the challenge will deliver for renal patients.

The first official training ride will be held next Sunday, beginning at 9 a.m. from the main entrance to Mater Dei Hospital, with Parliamentary Secretary for Sports Clyde Puli signalling the start of the challenge. There will be a further 17 weeks of progressive training to prepare participants.
