The Actavis Lifecycle Challenge in Japan has hit a hitch, the bicycles have not arrived on time.

The cyclists and their support crew left Malta yesterday, along with their bicycles.

The flight to Dubai took longer than usual because of a longer route to avoid  conflict zones, and the bikes could not be transferred on time for the flight to Japan.

"The 22 cyclists and 12 back up crew have now got their fingers crossed that the bikes will be delivered to Fukuoka in time for the start on Wednesday but it seems likely that they will have to assemble the bikes in the middle of the night in order to set off at 7am as planned," the group said.

Morale is high in spite of the setback and the exceptional eagerness to pkease of the airport staff at Osaka helped reassure all that everything possible was being done.

The 16th Actavis Lifecycle Challenge will cover 2, 000km in 10 days, from Fukuoka to Tokyo, to raise money for the Renal Unit at Mater Dei.
