A 20-year-old man has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of a teenager shot dead in a shop in south London.

Ashley Bucknor will serve a minimum of 32 years for the murder of 18-year-old Ryan Bravo in Camberwell Road, in August 2008.

Speaking after the trial at Woolwich Crown Court, a Scotland Yard spokesman said the teenager was in a Costcutter store when two men barged in and opened fire.

Witnesses reported a group of men driving away from the scene on mopeds, and when Mr Bucknor was arrested shortly afterwards he was carrying two motorcycle helmets.

He was also in possession of a handgun, which was later found to have been used during the attack, although it was not used to fire the fatal shot. Investigating officer Detective Inspector Tim Carter paid tribute to Ryan Bravo after the trial.

"Ryan was from a close-knit family that had been enjoying an evening together," he said. "He was no gang member.

"He was expected to start a university course soon and was generally known as a good lad."

Mr Carter said the shooting was in retaliation for an incident earlier that day in nearby Lambeth.

He said: "It was still daylight, a warm evening in August in one of the busiest streets in London. They paid no regard to any innocent members of the public.

"One bike even mounted the pavement and a witness described how he pushed his wife to one side for fear she would be mown down."
