The Malta Heart Foundation was launched at the end of the recent International String Orchestra Festival at the Manoel Theatre, Valletta, by Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi and the foundation's chairman Jo Cachia.

The Malta Heart Foundation is a non-governmental organisation which aims to educate the public about the prevention of heart disease.

President Emeritus Guido de Marco, one of the founding members of the new foundation, presided over the launch, which was also attended by eminent cardiologist Albert Fenech, another founding member, who oversaw the donation of the first automatic defibrillator to the Manoel Theatre. A number of such automatic defibrillators will be placed in public spaces according to one of the main aims of the new foundation.
