The overall experience of life in Malta is equal to that of Germany and France and marginally inferior to the UK according to Quality of Life Indicators published by the EU today.

Quality of life in Malta is about equal to the EU average but inferior to countries such as Denmark, which topped the list, Finland and Sweden, which were close behind, the Netherlands, Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg Ireland.

The survey considered various factors including GDP per capita, median income, employment and unemployment, life expectancy, education and early school leavers, the homicide rate, the ability to afford unexpected expenses and the natural and living environment.

Malta achieved its score even though the natural and living environment was not recorded..

Malta was well below the EU average in GDP per capita but better with regard to long term unemployment and life expectancy. It was much better than the EU average on its residents’ ability to afford unexpected expensed and also had a lower homicide rate. However is scored badly in the gender pay gap.

Eurostat said it issued the survey to mark the International Day of Happiness, celebrated tomorrow.
