The stock of licensed motor vehicles at the end of September rose by 2,388 to stand at 285,353, the National Statistics Office said.
Seventy-six per cent were private vehicles and commercial vehicles made up 16.3 per cent.
New licences issued in the third quarter of 2007 amounted to 3,240. Private vehicles accounted for 2,350 new licences, or 72.5 per cent of the total.
Newly-licensed "new" motor vehicles amounted to 1,973, or 60.9 per cent of the total, while newly-licensed "used" motor vehicles amounted to 1,267, or 39.1 per cent of the total.
A total of 664 vehicles were scrapped in the period under review.
