Members of the Libyan community in Malta this morning methodically went around most rooms at the Libyan school in Ta' Giorni, removing every trace of former leader Muammar Gaddafi.

The Libyan independence flag was hoisted on the building this morning and a number of men then started collecting as many copies as they could find of the Green Book - which explains Gaddafi political theory. They were placed in heaps but could not be set on fire because no one had a lighter!

They also tore up posters of Col Gaddafi and historical pictures of his many visits to Malta. Some of the men hurled insults and even spat on the pictures. Others stamped on T-shirts showing Gaddafi.

Green flags of the Gaddafi regime were torn into shreds and placards with quotations by Gaddafi were pulled from the walls.
