The Libyan-Maltese Chamber of Commerce welcomed the news that the Swiss government was prepared to lift the visa ban on certain categories of Libyan citizens.

In a statement, it said that Libya's reaction to the travel ban imposed by Switzerland on some 188 Libyan officials impacted heavily on the Maltese and Libyan business community, strained political relations and brought major hardship on the many Maltese who worked in Libya.

The chamber hoped that following various diplomatic efforts good sense would prevail.

The chamber thanked Foreign Affairs Minister Tonio Borg, Justice Minister Carm Mifsud Bonnici, the diplomatic missions of Italy and Spain and the Popular Office of the Libyan Jamahiriya.
