A 28-year-old Libyan was this afternoon fined €6,573.75 after he pleaded not guilty of failing to declare he was carrying €26,295 or more in cash on entering Malta.

Ahmed Mahmud A Elkabir was also charged with committing the crime during the operative period of a suspended sentence and of being a relapser.

The court confiscated €16,295 and extended his suspended sentence by another two years.
