A Libyan man today pleaded not guilty to having burgled the same house in Mellieha twice, stealing more than €27,000 in cash and jewellery.

El Magrus Juma Abdalla, 32, from Siggiewi, pleaded not guilty to the burglaries, which allegedly took place in September and October.

He also denied attempting to steal more items from the house last Friday, when he was allegedly caught trying to gain entry through a balcony.

A request for bail was turned down and he was remanded in custody. Police Inspectro Paul Bond prosecuted while lawyer Martin Fenech represented the accused as legal aid.
