The proliferation of e-commerce and online shopping was adversely affecting the wholesale and retail sectors but creating opportunities for others, the Malta Employers Association said in its proposals for the budget.

The association described the crisis in Libya as a serious threat to numerous businesses and jobs, but said this could create new openings for Malta.

It said there were worrying aspects concerning the country’s economic performance and infrastructure, the state of public transport was a festering sore and a drain on public finances and the energy supply is still unstable.
