Liberian national Nelson Mufa, 34, a resident of St Paul's Bay, was remanded in custody today after having been accused of conspiring to import heroin. He pleaded not guilty.

Police sources said the man had, allegedly, been due to receive a consignment of heroin from Briton Scott Bell, who was arrested at the airport earlier this week. Officers set up a controlled delivery in Valletta, but Mr Mufa got suspicious when a Maltese turned up with the 'drug' and dashed off.

He was arrested in Floriana.
