Almost a hundred artworks by local and international artists are going under the hammer this evening during the seventh edition of the fine arts auction in aid of Id-Dar tal-Providenza.
For the first time, the auction will be held live from the foyer of the House of Representatives where the artworks have been on display for almost a week.
“By bidding and buying these works of art you will be helping Id-Dar tal-Providenza to continue to consolidate the vision Mgr Michael Azzopardi had, establishing a home in a caring environment for persons with disability, who for one reason or another could not remain with their natural family,” the home’s director, Fr Martin Micallef, wrote in the auction catalogue.
Among the artists who have donated their works are John Martin Borg, Debbie Bonello, Margaret Ellul Vincenti, Joseph Barbara, Vickie Tonna, Ganni Pace, John Vic Borg, Evghenia Shalalis, Frederick Gingell, Joe Spiteri Staines, Anna Galea, Yves Cali, Patrick Muscat, Antoine Paul Camilleri, Daniela Guevska, Arja Nukarinen Callus, Twanny Agius, Philip Chircop, Vania Goshe, Audrey Mercieca, Joseph Trapani, Emmanuel Borg, Andrew Smith, Anthony Cassar, George Apap, Kenneth Zammit Tabona, Henry Borg Barthet, Winston Hassall, Catherine Cavallo, Arnold Sultana, Jeni Caruana, Luciano Micallef, Galina Troizky, Henry Alamango, Jackie Micallef, Patrick Caruana Dingli, Carmel Bonello, Patrick Dalli, Victor Grech and Jo Debono.
The auction, which forms part of the annual Festa ta’ Ġenerożità marathon held on January 1, has gone from strength to strength over the years and the sum raised has doubled since the first edition in 2012 − €36,200 were collected last year.
Pierre Grech Pillow of Obelisk Auctions will conduct the event. All bids have to be either submitted via an absentee bidding form or by registering by phone or by being present at the auction. One can register before the auction starts at 7pm.
