On January 29, I had been waiting at Mistra for the night bus to Cirkewwa since 11.45 p.m. I work in the area and was going to Gozo right after work.

After waiting for an hour I decided to walk and a car pulled over. The driver informed me that night buses going towards Cirkewwa are not always scheduled.

I was kindly given a lift to the first visible bus stop at Mellieħa and shortly after the night bus arrived.

The bus driver told me he was not going to Cirkewwa for just one person.

I told him I needed to catch the 2 a.m. ferry to Gozo. He replied that it was time for him to go to bad.

He ordered the few people left on the bus to get off and walk towards whichever part of Mellieħa they wanted to go.

I have since visited the online night buses schedule, and much to my dismay discovered that the 45 night bus was indeed supposed to go to Cirkewwa.

I walked for 45 minutes to Mellieħa Bay in total darkness and desperation.

Then a kind-hearted man from Gozo, with much discretion, pulled over and I asked him to please give me a lift to Cirkewwa if it was on his way.

He did so, and I was able to catch the 2 a.m. ferry in time and meet my family at Mġarr.

My car broke down a few months ago, and I am hugely disappointed to see that the public bus transport situation has remained the same.

Who will now see to my rights? Who will acknowledge the inconvenience and sense of insecurity I had to go through?
