In the first eight months of 2009, VAT yielded the government a net of €261,666,329, Finance Minister Tonio Fenech said in reply to a parliamentary question by Labour MP Carmelo Abela.

The gross revenue was €325,179,091, but €63,512,762 were refunded.

By comparison, the figures for the same eight months of 2008 were €283,112,342, €352,834,133 and €69,721,791.
