Inter coach Leonardo has called on his players to think like Formula One legend Ayrton Senna if they want to win the Serie A title again.

Senna won three F1 world titles with McLaren in the late 1980s and early 1990s but tragically died in 1994 during the San Marino Grand Prix while driving for Williams.

However he was known for his brilliant driving ability and fierce will to win.

And Leonardo wants those very same traits to be shown by his team.

They currently sit sixth in Serie A, nine points behind leaders AC Milan but with two games in hand.

Victories in both would see them move second and just three points behind their arch city rivals, something that would amount to an impressive comeback since mid December when they trailed by 13 points but with just one game in hand.

"We're thinking only about ourselves, there's no point making calculations at this time," said Leonardo.

"However, it's impossible for Inter not to think about winning, it's in our DNA.

"If Ayrton Senna started 25th on the grid he still thought about winning," he added about his Brazilian compatriot.

"We need to think only about ourselves and not about the virtual standings.

"We need to do what's necessary to be still fighting right to the end.

"Milan's dip is normal, it happens to all teams. It also happened to us, you can't play your best for 38 league games."

Leonardo has completely turned around Inter since joining in late December following six turbulent months for Rafael Benitez that left the club seventh in the table.

The team has won four games in a row under the Brazilian but he refused to take credit for their recent improvement.

"It's not my Inter, it's Inter, the team that won everything. I didn't invent these players, they know what they want to do but it's the attention to little details that changes," he said

Inter host Cesena in the league on Wednesday in a match which on paper they should win comfortably.

"The first few minutes tomorrow will be crucial, our approach to the game is important and against Bologna it was almost perfect," Leonardo said referring to Saturday's 4-1 win.
