Inter coach Leonardo took a swipe at those who questioned the standard of Serie A after defeats for Italian clubs in the Champions League.

“It upsets me, because I’m hearing that ‘Inter are finished...despite being the champions!”

The Italian press have gone to town on the decline of the Italian league after Milan went down 1-0 to Tottenham and Roma’s 3-2 home defeat to Shakhtar Donetsk.

Leonardo however did suggest Italian football has lacked for years a global project to help the clubs and league prosper.

“I see football like this - you need to develop, that’s what makes people excited about football. Everyone says it – Arsenal and Barcelona are brilliant – Why? We should place values on every situation of the game here as well, and not stop just at goals scored and conceded.”
